- Comme réactif, avec du chlorure ferrique, dans la synthèse de dihydropyrimidinones.[8]
- Comme agent modificateur dans la fabrication d′un matériau détectant l′humidité, le poly(sulfonate de 2-acrylamido-2-méthylpropane) (poly-AMPS)[9].
- Comme milieu de synthèse de triarylamines et d′éthers diaryliques via une réaction d′Ullmann sans ligand catalysée par du cuivre[10].
- Comme précurseur pour la préparation d′un xérogel de silice, dont une application porte sur les vecteurs pharmaceutiques de médicaments[11].
- Comme précurseur dans la synthèse de particules de silice sphériques par le procédé Stöber.[12]
