Diencephalon-mesencephalon homeobox 1 (DMBX1), also known as orthodenticle homeobox 3 (Otx3), is encoded by a gene mapped to human chromosome 1p33. It belongs to the paired class homeodomain transcription factors family. The encoded protein is expressed mainly in the developing CNS(central nervous system).

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Orthodenticle homeobox 3(Otx3) or Diencephalon-mesencephalon homeobox 1 (DMBX1) forms heterodimer complex with orthodenticle homeobox 2 (OTX2) and facilitates brain development via repressing Otx2-mediated transcription. Experimental studies on mouse embryo shows that Dmbx1 is involved in the regulation of energy homeostasis by facilitating the development of neurons that are downstream targets of neuropeptide Y (NPY) / agouti-related protein (AgRP) neurons and/or pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons.
