General description

Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from herring testes, also known as HtDNA is a natural source of DNA designed for DNA binding agent studies. The detection limits of HtDNA are around 5.0ng and linear ranges of light scattering intensity (I(LS)) is 0.05-2.5 mµg.[1]

Application

Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from herring testes is used in studies of DNA binding agents that modulate DNA structure and function. Herring testes DNA is also used in physicochemical studies of DNA behavior in solution.

Innate immune activation by macrophages is an essential part of host defence against infection. Cytosolic recognition of microbial DNA in macrophages leads to induction of interferons and cytokines through activation of cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) and stimulator of interferon genes

Preguntas

1–3 de 3 Preguntas
  1. What is the species for product D6898? It's only listed as Herring on CofO.

    1 respuesta
    1. The species is Clupea harengus.

      ¿Le ha resultado útil?

  2. What buffer should be used to dissolve this for long term storage? Is there any stock concentration recommendations?

    1 respuesta
    1. The solubility of this product is tested at 2 mg/mL in H2O. Solutions of DNA have been stored successfully for several months at 4 °C, in 10 mM Tris, pH 7.5 - 8.0, with 1 mM EDTA, without a bacteriostatic agent. At low concentrations (25 μg/ml), DNA tends to absorb onto the surfaces of plastic tubes. It is not recommended to store DNA in alkaline solutions since DNA tends to degrade at a pH greater than 8.0.

  3. What is the molecular weight range of Product D6898, Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from herring testes, Type XIV? What is the difference between Product D6898 and D3159 (Deoxyribonucleic acid from herring sperm)?

    1 respuesta
    1. The molecular weight of this product is not determined . However, one publication has described "linear DNA-type XIV from herring testes sodium salt (Na content 6.2%, H2O content 4.5%)" as having a molecular weight between 400 and 1000 base pairs with a center of distribution at 700 bps". Assuming the average molecular weight of a base pair (bp) to be 649.0 g/mol, these three MW values calculate as follows:
      400 bp = 259,600 MW
      700 bp = 454,300 MW
      1000 bp = 649,000 MW
