General description

Cholera filtrate promotes the activation of adenylate cyclase. It does not affect the activity of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) phosphodiesterase.[1]

Application

Cholerafiltrate has been used as a receptor destroying enzyme (RDE): inhemagglutination inhibition assay of serum samples[2], in microneutralizationassay of mice serum samples, in hemagglutination inhibition assay to removenon-specific inhibitors from the cell culture supernatant samples[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cholera filtrate is a bacterial sialidase receptor-destroying enzyme (RDE) and may be used as crude neuraminidase. It may also be used in serological testing for influenza.

Preparation Note

After reconstituting with 5ml sterile water, it will contain 0.01% MIT as preservative.

Other Notes

See a separate listing of neuraminidase for preparations showing higher activity.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. Since it is lyophilized powder, can reagent C8772 be received at room temperature?

    1 answer
    1. This Cholera filtrate powder is shipped ambient.

      Helpful?

  2. The reconstituted solution should be frozen at -20 °C in aliquots ?

    1 answer
    1. The stability of this material in solution has not been evaluated. However, this is a crude source of neuraminidase. The purified neuraminidase product N7885 is an aqueous solution at pH 5.5, containing 0.15 M NaCl and 4 mM CaCl2. This product has an expected shelf life of at least 2 years when stored refrigerated at 2-8°C. Similar stability may be demonstrated by the Cholera Filtrate.
