ANK1 (ankyrin 1, erythrocytic) is a multifunctional adaptor protein. It has two conserved domains for protein-protein interactions. The N-terminal domain contains a ′membrane-binding′ region, responsible for all protein binding activities and a ′spectrin-binding′ domain associates with β-spectrin at the center.

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

ANK1 (ankyrin 1, erythrocytic) connects specific proteins to the membrane-associated, spectrin-actin cytoskeleton during ion transport, cell adhesion and membrane trafficking. ANK1 binds to the clathrin for the membrane trafficking process. Deficiency of ANK1 causes a hereditary disease, spherocytosis.
