Allgemeine Beschreibung

04:0 PC is a water soluble phophatidylcholine analogue.[1] Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a strong bilayer-forming lipid. It the most common phospholipid in mammalian membranes.[2] It is also an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon.[3]

The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Anwendung

04:0 PC is suitable for use to evaluate its ability to form reverse micelles.[4] It is also suitable for use as a phospholipid substrate to study the substrate specificity of glycerophosphoethanolamine ethanolaminephosphodiesterase (GPE-EP).[5]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance.[3] It is used to treat fat embolism. Phosphatidylcholine lowers the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.[6]
