Allgemeine Beschreibung
Rose Bengal ist ein roter oder rosa, anionischer Farbstoff. Er ist ein 4,5,6,7-Tetrachlor-2′,4′,5′,7′-tetraiod-Derivat von Fluoreszein. Er wird häufig zum Nachweis von Schäden des Epithels der Augenoberfläche bei Erkrankungen der Augenoberfläche wie Keratoconjunctivitis sicca und Herpes corneae eingesetzt. Rose Bengal weist eine milde antivirale Wirkung auf.[1][2]
Rose Bengal wird zur Färbung von toten und degenerierenden Zellen und Schleimhäuten verwendet.[3]
