Histone H2A is one of four components of the core nucleosomal structure. The nucleosome represents a unit of chromatin in which DNA is wrapped around a histone octamer. Histones undergo a number of post-translational modifications (PTM) in response to various stimuli that may induce changes in the structure of the nucleosome and hide or expose DNA sequences. Histone H2A, in particular, undergoes acetylation on lysine 5 by the Tip60 enzyme which may promote unfolding of chromatin and transcription. In addition, H2A is phosphorylated on serine 1 and serine 139 (H2A.X) residues which mark mitosis and gene repression, and DNA damage, respectively. Gene repression may also result from the sumoylation of H2A’s lysine 126 residue. In addition, ubiquitination of the H2A lysine 119 residue may play a role in spermatogenesis. It is the pattern of different modifications on several histone residues that alter chromatin, rather than modification of single residues.

In the absence of pathogen attack, organisms usually suppress immune responses to reduce the negative effects of disease resistance. Monoubiquitination of histone variants at specific gene loci is crucial for gene expression, but its involvement in the regulation of plant
Chlordecone (CD), also known as Kepone, is an organochlorine insecticide that has been used in banana crops in the French West Indies. Due to long-term contamination of soils and water, the population is still exposed to CD. Exposure to CD
The roles and regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis (a non-apoptotic form of cell death) in cancer remain unclear. The tumour suppressor BRCA1-associated protein 1 (BAP1) encodes a nuclear deubiquitinating enzyme to reduce histone 2A ubiquitination (H2Aub) on chromatin. Here, integrated transcriptomic

CARM1 is a protein arginine methyltransferase (PRMT) that acts as a coactivator in a number of transcriptional programs. CARM1 orchestrates this coactivator activity in part by depositing the H3R17me2a histone mark in the vicinity of gene promoters that it regulates.

The progressive loss of neurons causes neurodegenerative diseases. Because the accumulation of DNA breaks results in neuronal apoptosis, the lack of a variety of DNA damage repair-related proteins contributes to neurodegeneration. The ubiquitin ligase RNF8 plays an important role in
