When Alizarin is tested during the Quality Control, there is no performance testing performed to determine if the product can be screen printed. The only performance test performed during quality control is for use as a pH indicator. The Sigma Aldrich Handbook of Stains, Dyes and Indicators by Floyd Green also states Alizarin is used as a spot-test test reagent and for the detection of Aluminum, Indium, Mercury, Zinc, Zirconium, Iron, and Chromium. Alizarin has also been used for vital staining of protozoa and nervous tissue. This list does not state every possible use.

Alizarin has been used as a biological stain to dye cotton fabrics and is used as standard in UV-visible spectrophotometer.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Alizarin (1, 2-dihydroxyanthraquinone) is an anthraquinone dye and acts as a main chromophore of madder dye. It is used as a dye in the production of lake pigments. Alizarin is a key constituent in extracts of roots of various members of Rubiaceae, Morinda, Gallium, Oldenlandia families.
