General description

Immunoglobulin G (IgG), is one of the most abundant proteins in human serum with normal levels between 8-17 mg/mL in adult blood. IgG is important for our defence against microorganisms and the molecules are produced by B lymphocytes as a part of our adaptive immune response. The IgG molecule has two separate functions; to bind to the pathogen that elicited the response and to recruit other cells and molecules to destroy the antigen. The variability of the IgG pool is generated by somatic recombination and the number of specificities in an individual at a given time point is estimated to be 1011 variants.

There is mounting evidence to suggest that the synthesis of pre-mRNA transcripts and their subsequent splicing are coordinated events. Previous studies have implicated the mammalian spliceosomal U2 snRNP as having a novel role in stimulating transcriptional elongation in vitro through

Moderate calorie restriction (CR) can improve insulin-stimulated Akt phosphorylation and glucose uptake in muscles from 24 month-old rats, but the specific Akt substrates linking CR-effects on Akt to glucose uptake and other cellular processes are uncertain. We probed CR's influence

Calorie restriction (CR) (consuming ~60% of ad libitum, AL, intake) improves whole body insulin sensitivity and enhances insulin-stimulated glucose uptake by isolated skeletal muscles. However, little is known about CR-effects on in vivo glucose uptake and insulin signaling in muscle.

Exercise has been shown to improve function of the left ventricle (LV) following myocardial infarction (MI). The mechanisms to explain this benefit have not been fully delineated, but may involve improved mechanics resulting in unloading effects and increased endothelial nitric
