Descripción general

The microbial degradation of tributyl phosphate was carried out using Klebsiella pneumoniae S3 isolated from the soil[1]. The solubilization behavior of TBP in aqueous solutions of L64-Pluronics was studied using light and small angle neutron scattering (SANS)[2].

Tributyl phosphate (TBP) is an organophosphate compound widely used as an extraction solvent, flame retardant, and plasticizer. [3]

Aplicación

Tributyl phosphate (TBP) was used as defoamers and/or plasticizers, in fuel reprocessing and extraction[1].

We have studied the solubilization behavior of tributylphosphate (TBP) in aqueous solutions of L64-Pluronics, using light and small angle neutron scattering (SANS). Varying the temperature and the oil content, the system presents a nontrivial phase behavior. In particular, at 308

Tributyl phosphate (TBP) has enormous applications in the field of extraction, fuel reprocessing, as defoamers and/or plasticizers. Excessive usage of this organophosphorus compound, poses an environmental threat. The present study deals with microbial degradation of TBP using Klebsiella pneumoniae S3

Questions

  1. Can you make any comment on the stability of TBP when diluted in phosphate-buffered saline (1% v/v)? Would it be recommended to store such a diluted solution in the fridge?

    1 answer
    1. The stability of the product in solution has not been determined. Most publications reference TBP solutions in organic solvents rather than aqueous solutions. The following paper, while very dated, may offer some additional information: https://www.osti.gov/servlets/purl/4349304
