General description

BTG2 is a member of the BTG/Tob protein family with anti-proliferative characteristics. It is involved in various cellular processes such as cell-cycle progression, differentiation or apoptosis, cell growth, and survival. It contains a conserved BTG (or APRO) domain in the N-terminal end.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

BTG2 has high impact on the DNA-damage-induced G2/M cell-cycle arrest. Its activity is regulated by p53. It acts as a coactivator and corepressor of estrogen receptor ERα in vitro. It modulates the transcription regulation mediated by ERα. It is a primary response genes induced by growth factors and tumour promoters. It interacts with Pop2 (pyrin-only protein 2)/Caf1 (CCR4-associated factor 1), active Pop2/Caf1 and Ccr4 deadenylases during mRNA decay control.
