Descripción general

Cellulose, a β-glucan insoluble in water[1] is an important constituent of plant cell wall. It is a tough, fibrous polysaccharide[2], which has a linear chain of glucose residues, linked with β-1,4 bond.[3] Plants produces this biopolymer abundantly.[1]

Aplicación

High purity cellulose powders for partition chromatography.
Cellulose (medium fibers) is used in metabolic pathway and carbohydrate applications. Cellulose has been used to study biofuel and biorefinery applications.
Cellulose has been used:
  • for biomass analysis in pyrolysis process[4]
  • in column chromatography to purify organisms from uninfected erythrocytes and white cells[5]
  • as a standard in fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to study conformational characteristics of bacterial cellulose (BC) obtained from Hestrin-Schramm (HS) medium[6]
  • as a control in diet-related animal studies to evaluate the hypocholesterolemic activity of botryosphaeran[7]

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Cellulose helps in maintaining the structural stability of plant cell walls. It is an important component of paper and fabrics made from cotton, and linen.[2]

Questions

1–8 of 8 Questions
  1. Thank you to tell if this cellulose have a fibre diameter of approximately 25 µm, grain size approximately 100 µm, apparent density 150 to 200 kg/m3 and pH-value between 5 and 7.5 ?

    1 answer
    1. The fiber diameter is in the range of 12 -15 micron (25 micron swollen). This product has an average size range of 50-350 um. Unfortunately, information on the apparent density and pH of this product has not been collected.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. 3. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  4. What are the particle size and density of the medium Cellulose fibers?

    1 answer
    1. Particle size and density are not routinely tested for product C6288 on a lot-to-lot basis. The recorded information denotes that the mean particle size ranges from 50-350 microns, and each gram of the product can swell to approximately 3.0 ml. The fiber diameter typically spans from 12-15 microns, increasing to about 25 microns when swollen. The product is strictly intended for laboratory use.

  5. Hi, do you have any information about the molecular weight of cellulose fibres? Thanks

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the molecular weight is not determined for this product.

  6. hi, can you specify the source of this cellulose? from which plant etc?

    1 answer
    1. Recent lots are of synthetic origin. Previous lots have been prepared from soft wood tree pulp.

  7. Hi, I am looking for cellulose nanofibers (CNF), neutral (non-charged), and inert to prepare hydrogel. Do you have any products?

    1 answer
    1. This product has an average size range of 50-350 um. There is no cellulose product option that would be considered a nanofiber. S6790, Sigmacell Cellulose, is a highly purified Type 101 with a size range of 15 - 21 um. These products have not been tested for use in forming hydrogels. Suitability would need to be determined by the end user. None of the cellulose products are tested for charge or conductivity. See the link below to review the S6790, Sigmacell Cellulose:

  8. Hello, I would like to ask you about the length of these cellulose fibers C6288, in our project we need 0.8-0.9 mm, do you have cellulose fiber like this please?

    1 answer
    1. For this product, the mean particle size is 50-350 micron. Each gram swells to approximately 3.0 ml. The fiber diameter is in the range of 12 -15 micron (25 micron swollen). The largest particle size we offer for cellulose is 50 μm.
