Descripción general

Brij® 35 is a common nonionic surfactant,[1] which has a dodecyl apolar core and a polyoxyethylene chain-formed polar surface. It comprises several hydrophobic and hydrogen-bonding interaction sites with target analytes. Brij 35 is edible and non-toxic.[2]

Aplicación

Brij® 35 solution has been used to develop a novel hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)/Brij-35 supramolecular solvent (SUPRAS)-based liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) of parabens.[2] It has also been used to study the formation of water-in-ionic liquid (w/IL) microemulsions in IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]).[1]

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Brij® 35 is known as the “green” modifier in micellar liquid chromatography due to its capability to simulate the biopartitioning process.[2] It forms water-in-ionic liquid (w/IL) microemulsions with IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]) in the bulk phase. It can also form reverse micelle-type aggregates inside [bmim][PF6] in the absence of added water.[1]

Jia Chen et al.
Journal of chromatography. A, 1591, 33-43 (2019-01-21)
A novel supramolecular solvent (SUPRAS) based on hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)/Brij-35 was proposed for liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) of parabens in water samples, pharmaceuticals and personal care products. Brij-35 is a cost-effective and non-toxic non-ionic surfactant, but it has a high cloud point

Brij-35, a common and popular nonionic surfactant, is shown to form water-in-ionic liquid (w/IL) microemulsions with IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]) as the bulk phase. The presence of w/[bmim][PF6] microemulsions is hinted by the significantly increased solubility of water in Brij-35

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. Does the 30% w/w concentration refer to 30 g Brij 35 per 100 g solution? Or is it a ratio of 30 g Brij 35 added to every 100 g water? Thank you.

    1 answer
    1. The 30 w/w% concentration refers to 30 g of Brij 35 per 100 g of solution.
