General description

Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) are phospholipids, that are abundantly present in the tissues of animal. PCs are known to carry saturated and unsaturated fatty acids in the sn-1 and sn-2 position respectively.
The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Application

06:0 PC (1,2-dihexanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine/DHPC) may be used:
  • in the preparation of lipid bicelles for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments
  • to form lipid vesicles/micelles for guanosine triphosphate (GTP) hydrolysis (GTPase) assays
  • in the reconstitution of p7 protein of the hepatitis C virus (p7(5a)) in bicelles

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) plays a functional role in reducing the level of blood lipid and cholesterol. It may also have the ability to inhibit cardiovascular disease and obesity.
