Descrizione generale

C-Phycocyanin is a protein pigment, that is soluble in water. It is an important constituent of Spirulina platensis.[1]

Applicazioni

C-Phycocyanin from Spirulina sp. has been used:
  • as a standard to characterize the fluorescence interactions and oxidation behaviors for model compounds[2]
  • as a standard to confirm the antibacterial activity[3]
  • to characterize the recombinantly expressed α-subunit of C-phycocyanin from Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 (HisCPC)[4]
  • to identify the phycocyanin from water extracted Spirulina maxima sample[5]

Azioni biochim/fisiol

C-phycocyanin, a biliprotein with antioxidant properties, was shown to induce apoptosis in HeLa cells by stimulating expression of pro-apoptotic genes as well as by inducing increased release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria. [6]
C-phycocyanin can act as an active inhibitor of A53Tα-synuclein. It possess anti-inflammatory properties.[7]
