Descrizione generale

MRVI1 (murine retrovirus integration site 1 homolog) gene is localized to human chromosome 11p15, which produces two alternatively spliced isoforms called MRVI1a and MRVI1b. They are both composed of an α-helical coiled coil domain, a hydrophobic C-terminal region, a basic N-terminal leucine zipper motif, multiple phosphorylation and N-linked glycosylation sites, and an ATP-binding region. It is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane, and is a type-2 integral membrane protein.

Azioni biochim/fisiol

MRVI1 (murine retrovirus integration site 1 homolog) acts as a substrate for the enzyme cGMP-dependent kinase-1 (PKG1). It is essential for motility, where it is responsible for the release of cyclic Ca2+ in a PKG1β-dependent manner. Any alterations in the inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor-1 (IP3R1)-MRVI1 system results in dysfunctional osteoclasts. In the smooth muscles of colon, this protein plays a key role in the NO/cGK-dependent inhibition of InsP3-dependent Ca2+-signaling.
