General description
Bovine serum albumin (BSA) that belongs to the serum albumin family, is an α-helical, globular and non-glycosylated protein. It comprises three domains with two subdomains under each domain.
Application
Bovine Serum Albumin has been used:
- as a component of cryomedia for freezing testicular tissue
- to resuspend myometrial cells in flow cytometric analysis for cell viability quantification
- to block cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) for immunofluorescence staining
Biochem/physiol Actions
Si sospetta che alcuni epitopi conformazionali e di sequenza primaria di BSA siano allergeni nelle allergie umane a carne bovina e latte.
Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) is a transporter for drugs, hormones, and fatty acids. It displays high solubility and is exploited in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. BSA is useful as a cell media component and favors embryonic stem cells (hESC)differentiation.
Preparation Note
Ci si riferisce alla sieroalbumina come Frazione V. Questa designazione è presa dal metodo originale introdotto da Cohn per frazionare siero proteine usando la precipitazione in etanolo a freddo. La sieroalbumina è stata trovata da Cohn nella quinta frazione col suo metodo basato sull′etanolo. Da allora il termine “Frazione V” è stato usato da alcuni a prescindere dal metodo di preparazione. Altri hanno usato questa terminologia riferita a sieroalbumina purificata con metodi di frazionamento basati su etanolo che sono stati profondamente modificati dai tempi in cui Cohn li ha descritti. Sigma-Aldrich produce e distribuisce sieroalbumine purificate con vari metodi primari inclusi il metodo originale di frazionamento di Cohn, metodi modificati di frazionamento con etanolo, shock termico e cromatografia. Stadi successivi di purificazione possono comprendere cristallizzazione o filtrazione su carbone attivo.
