Description générale

Vitamin K1/Phylloquinone is a prenylated naphthoquinone. It is produced by plants, green algae and some species of cyanobacteria.[1]

Application

Vitamin K1 has been used in the preparation of culture media.[2]

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Vitamin K1 (Phylloquinone) is a lipid soluble polycyclic aromatic ketone used as a cofactor in the formation of coagulation factors II (prothrombin), VII, IX and X; anticoagulant factors protein C and S and as a cell signaling factor. Vitamin K1 is essential for blood coagulation, bone and vascular metabolism. Phylloquinone from green leafy vegetables and vegetable oil is the most important dietary source of vitamin K for humans.[1]

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. How much of Vitamin K1 per litre of anaerobic gut-mimicking media is recommended?

    1 answer
    1. This is not an application that is QC tested, but the literature indicates that a good starting point might be 0.5 ug/mL. Please see: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6658209/

Another option would be to use a Vitamin K1 ready-made solution, such as: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/product/sigma/sbr00053

This product is at a concentration of 5 mg/mL, but recommends dilution down to 1 ug/mL prior to use, and states that the optimal concentration may vary by strain so, further experimentation may be necessary to determine optimal conditions.
