Application

2,4-Dinitrophenol (DNP) can be used:
  • As a reactant for catalytic reduction reactions.[1][2]
  • To activate carboxylic acids by converting them into dinitrophenyl (DNP) esters.[3]
  • To prepare the corresponding ester via acylation reaction using isobutyric anhydride catalyzed by hafnium triflate.[4]
  • As an effective cocatalyst to accelerate the activity and enantioselectivity of primary amine organocatalyst derived from natural primary amino acids for direct asymmetric aldol reaction.[5]
  • As an alternative activator to tetrazoles in the reaction of phosphoroamidites with nucleosides.[6]

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. How to dissolve D198501?

    1 answer
    1. 2,4-DNP (2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine) is sparingly soluble in water. To prepare a 0.1M solution of 2,4-DNP (e.g., 500 ml), follow the steps below:
      1. Weigh 9.2 grams of 2,4-DNP and add it to 500 ml of distilled water.
      2. Place the solution on a magnetic stirrer and begin stirring. Note that 2,4-DNP is insoluble in water.
      3. Carefully add solid Tris Base to the solution while stirring until completely dissolved. Typically, 6-8 grams of Tris is sufficient for dissolution.
      4. This process will result in a clear, yellow solution. If necessary, the solution can be filtered.

  4. Is there any recommended shelf-life or re-test date/period for DNP (D198501)?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not assigned an expiration date or recommended retest date. Products with no expiration date or recommended retest date should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected. These products are also subject to a one-year warranty from the date of shipment.
