General description

Iron chelating agent. Completely protects against dopamine-induced cell death. Has also been shown to interfere with hydroxyl radical formation, which mediates tissue damage in several disease states. Shows anti-proliferative effect on vascular smooth muscle cells in vitro and in vivo. Can also inhibit the oxidative chemistry of peroxynitrite by reaction of the hydroxamic acid moieties with trans-peroxynitrous acid.

Application

  • Defective ferritinophagy and imbalanced iron metabolism in PBDE-47-triggered neuronal ferroptosis and salvage by Canolol.: This study explores the application of Deferoxamine Mesylate in mitigating iron overload and oxidative stress in neuronal cells, demonstrating its potential in neuroprotection and treatment strategies for neurodegenerative disorders (Wang et al., 2024).

  • Ferroptosis resists intracellular Vibrio splendidus AJ01 mediated by ferroportin in sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus.: The study demonstrates the potential of Deferoxamine Mesylate in aquatic animal health, particularly in enhancing the resistance against bacterial infections by modulating ferroptosis pathways (Wang et al., 2024).
