General description
Cholecalciferol wird entweder über die Nahrung oder durch Aussetzung der Haut an UV-Strahlen aufgenommen. Oral aufgenommenes Vitamin D3 wird gut absorbiert und im Fettgewebe gespeichert.
Cholecalciferol wirkt als ein Hormonvorläufer, da der Stoffwechsel in zwei Phasen erfolgt: zunächst zu 25-Hydroxycholecalciferol, dann zu 1α, 25-Dihydroxycholecalciferol. Eine Einheit (USP oder international) ist definiert als die Aktivität von 0,025 μg Vitamin D3, das im Vitamin-D-Referenzstandard der USP enthalten ist.

Vitamin D wirkt durch einen Rezeptor, der die Proliferation und Differenzierung von normalen und von Krebszellen moduliert.
Preparation Note
Cholecalciferol C9756 wird unter Argongas abgefüllt. Wenn das Produkt ungeöffnet und vor Sonnenlicht geschützt bei 2 - 8 °C gelagert wird, sollte es mindestens drei Jahre haltbar sein. Nicht verbrauchte Reste sollten unter Stickstoff- oder Argongas aufbewahrt werden. Der Zerfall bei einjähriger Lagerung in gelben luftleeren Ampullen im Kühlschrank ist unbedeutend. Feuchte Luft führt innerhalb weniger Tage zur Oxidation und Inaktivierung des Produkts.

Products are retested according to the schedule set by Quality guidelines. In the case of C9756, the retest occurs every 3 years. Retesting only occurs if ample stock is available of the specific lot. Product retesting is not performed if the batch has sold out, nor is retesting performed upon request. Should stock remain, retesting will be performed near the assigned retest date. Should the lot continue to meet all specifications, the lot retest date is extended and an updated Certificate of Analysis will be generated.

This material has not been tested in a cell culture application. However, the material can be dissolved in 50 mg/ml of ethanol as mentioned on the Certificate of Analysis.
