Description générale

14:0 Diether PC (phosphocholine) is a glycerophospholipid having two tetradecyl chains attached to the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of the glycerol backbone by ether bonds. It has choline as the alcohol moiety, attached to the phosphate group.[1]

Application

14:0 Diether PC or 1,2-di-O-tetradecyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine might be used:
  • in lipid bicelles to reconstitute EmrE (secondary active transport protein) to study the chain length dependence by differential scanning calorimetry and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)[2]
  • to compose isotropically tumbling small bicelles, to study its size and morphology[3]
  • to prepare bicelle samples for solid-state NMR experiments to determine if the proteins could be reconstituted into phospholipid bilayers[4]
