Erythrosin B solutions can be prepared in various solvents. The dye is commonly prepared in water, buffered salt solutions or in ethanol. The Biological Stain Commission dissolves the dye in clove oil for the testing that is performed for certification of biological dyes. The solvent chosen will depend upon the staining applications. Erythrosin B can be dissolved in water to ~11 percent and 5% in ethanol. Some application recommend mixing or vortexing the solutions before use

Erythrosin B and Eosin B are considered synonyms; however, there are differences in their CAS numbers and CI numbers. Although there are no specific instructions for the use of product 200964, instructions are available for another Erythrosin B. This product can be used in a light microscopy procedure called hematoxylin and eosin staining. Additionally, both Erythrosin B and Eosin B are commonly used in H&E staining procedures and may be suitable for fluorescence microscopy for viability staining.
