General description
The CerS Assay Kit provides an easy to use assay for measuring CerS activity in biological samples. This Kit offers the advantage of a short assay time requiring only small amounts of biological material while eliminating TLC as a separation technique with its attendant degradation of NBD sphinganine.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Ceramide synthase (cerS) catalyzes the acylation of sphinganine (dihydrosphingosine) to yield dihydroceramide and sphingosine to yield ceramide. There are six cerS (cerS1-6), which differ in their specificity to yield ceramides of different chain length. Ceramide is a key intermediate in sphingolipid metabolism and an key signaling molecule.
Packaging
Kit contains:
0.3mg 16:0 fatty acyl-CoA
0.1mg NBD Sphinganine
0.3mg 16:0 fatty acyl-CoA
0.1mg NBD Sphinganine
