Gene Information

General description

Sodium dichloroacetate is a mitochondrial pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK) inhibitor that exhibits potent anti-leukemic activity.[1][2][3]

Application

Sodium dichloroacetate can be used as an organic salt precursor for synthesizing microporous carbon that is useful in developing carbon-based adsorbents.[4]

Because radiotherapy significantly increases median survival in patients with glioblastoma, the modulation of radiation resistance is of significant interest. High glycolytic states of tumor cells are known to correlate strongly with radioresistance; thus, the concept of metabolic targeting needs to

No pharmacological interventions are currently available to provide neuroprotection for patients suffering from cardiac arrest. Dichloroacetate (DCA) is a pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase inhibitor, which activates pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH), and increases cell adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production by promoting influx of pyruvate

A current study shows that sodium dichloroacetate (DCA) can induce cancer cell apoptosis and inhibit tumor growth, but its cytotoxic activity is low (IC(50) > 1000 microM for A549). In this paper, a variety of DCA derivatives were synthesized, and

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. Is the product sterile and readily soluble in other solution for intravenous use in medical research?

    1 answer
    1. Unless otherwise stated this product is intended for research use only and is not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses, or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals. For research purposes, in animal models or in vitro assays, the prepared solution would require filter sterilization.

  3. I have heard that dichloroacetate has been used for cancer treatment.  Is Product 347795, Sodium dichloroacetate, the same chemical?

    1 answer
    1. Some research studies on the use of dichloroacetate as an anti-cancer agent have been performed.  At this time, no dichloroacetate compound or product has been approved for use as an anti-cancer drug.  The common salts of dichloroacetate are sodium and potassium, and these are what have been used in the research studies.  The Sigma-Aldrich products 347795, Sodium Dichloroacetate, and 348082, Potassium Dichloroacetate, are offered for laboratory use only, and are not manufactured or intended for human use.
