General description

Polyhomeotic-like protein 2 (PHC2), also known as Polyhomeotic-like protein 2 hPH2, Early development regulatory protein 2, is encoded by the gene name PHC2, EDR2, and PH2. PHC2 is a component of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1-like complex, a complex class of proteins required to maintain the transcription repressive state of many genes, including Hox genes, throughout development. PcG PRC1 complex has been shown to function via chromatin remodeling and modification of histones. It also mediates monoubiquitination of histone H2A ′Lys-119′, rendering chromatin heritably changed in its expression. Polyhomeotic-like protein 2 PHC2 is a component of a Component of a PRC1-like complex. PHC2 has been demonstrated to interact with CBX4, BMI1, PCGF2, PHC1 and RNF2. In addition, PHC2 has been implied to interact with CHTOP and with the N-terminal region of the SP1 transcription factor and with MAPKAPK2.
~35/85 kDa observed. Uniprot describes 5 isoforms produced by alternative splicing at ~91 kDa, ~88 kDa, ~30 kDa, and ~36 kDa which are all expected to cross react to this protein.
