Description générale

Phosphatidylcholines are phospholipids, that are abundantly present in the membrane. They have fatty acids in the sn-1 and sn-2 positions, that are covalently attached to a glycerol with the help of ester bonds.
The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Application

22:0 PC may be used:
  • to study its effects on non-amyloidogenic processing of amyloid precursor protein (APP)/α-secretase activity
  • to prepare a lipid monolayer to study whether ligand is specifically targeted to domains containing Cu(II)-iminodiacetate lipid (Cu-PSIDA)
  • as a lipid standard for the quantification of lipid species from lipid droplets by hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography-high performance liquid chromatography (HILIC-HPLC)

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

The physical properties of membranes can be modulated with the help of fatty acyl configuration of phosphatidylcholines. They act as a vital source for eicosanoids.
