Gene Information

human ... BCL2(596)

General description

B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) is an integral inner mitochondrial membrane protein that acts as an antiapoptotic protein. It is a target gene of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB). The gene encoding BCL-2 is localized on human chromosome 18q21.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human BCL-2.

Immunogen Range: 46-95

Application

Anti-BCL-2 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

BCL2 is an apoptosis regulator that is expressed in sub-cellular components such as the mitochondria and nucleus. While mitochondrial BCL2 inhibits apoptosis, BCL2 present in the nucleus may activate cell death. BCL2 may also regulate autophagy during starvation . Anti-BCL-2 antibodies are specific for endogenous levels of total BCL-2 protein in rats, humans and mice.
