General description

Poly(ethylene oxide) is a synthetic hydrophilicpolymer available in a number of molecular weights. It can be obtained by thering-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide. This biocompatible polymer can be widely used in the field of biomedical research, tissue engineering and surface functionalization.

Application

PEO can be used to prepare polymer electrolyte systems for energy storage and conversion devices due its low glass transition temperature and ability to form complex with many alkaline salts.

Owing to its hydration and swelling properties, it is widely used as a precursor to prepare block copolymer micelles for selective drug and gene delivery.

Itcan also be used to fabricate nanofibrous membranes for the adsorption of heavymetal ions.

Features and Benefits

  • Excellent polymer chain flexibility
  • Low toxicity
  • High solvation power
  • Lowglass transition temperature
