Thy-1 cell surface antigen (THY1) is a glycoprotein that is expressed on the membranes of adult cells, mesenchymal stromal cells and cancer cells. It has a molecular weight of about 25-37kDa. The gene encoding THY1 is localized on human chromosome 11q23.3.
Immunogen
Peptide with sequence CPEHTYRSRTNFTSKY, from the internal region of the protein sequence according to NP_006279.2.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Thy-1 cell surface antigen (THY1) has a role in the activation of T-cells, release of neurotransmitters at synapses, enhancement of adhesion of astrocytes, wound healing, fibrogenesis and tumor suppression. It also plays an important role in cell migration and cytoskeletal reorganization.
