Reguliert die zelluläre Aufnahme, Nutzung und Speicherung von Glukose, Aminosäuren und Fettsäuren und hemmt den Abbau von Glykogen, Protein und Fett.

Zweikettiges Polypeptidhormon, das von den β-Zellen der Langerhans-Inseln produziert wird. Sein Molekulargewicht ist ~ 5800 Da. Die α- und β-Ketten sind durch zwei Disulfidbrücken zwischen den Ketten verbunden. Die α-Kette enthält eine Disulfidbrücke innerhalb der Kette. Insulin reguliert die zelluläre Aufnahme, Nutzung und Speicherung von Glukose, Aminosäuren und Fettsäuren und hemmt den Abbau von Glykogen, Protein und Fett.
