General description

Norketamine is the major urinary metabolite of ketamine. This certified Snap-N-Spike® Solution is suitable for numerous GC/MS or LC/MS applications in forensic analysis, urine drug testing, clinical toxicology, and clinical or diagnostic testing. Ketamine, sold as Ketanest®, Ketaset® and Ketalar®, is an NMDA receptor antagonist used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia in human and veterinary medicine. The drug is often abused at clubs, raves, or parties for its noted hallucingenic and dissociative properties and prescribed by some doctors as an off-label treatment for depression.

Application

  • Pharmacokinetics of ketamine following a short intravenous infusion to isoflurane-anesthetized New Zealand White rabbits: This study employs (±)-Norketamine hydrochloride to examine the pharmacokinetics of ketamine, providing critical insights into its metabolic pathways and implications for anesthetic use in veterinary medicine (Luca et al., 2020).

  • Pharmacokinetics and Safety of Esketamine in Chinese Patients Undergoing Painless Gastroscopy: Research utilizing (±)-Norketamine hydrochloride explores its pharmacological properties compared to ketamine, enhancing the understanding of its safety and efficacy in clinical settings, which is crucial for the development of anesthetic protocols (Wang et al., 2019).

  • The acute and residual effects of escalating, analgesic-range doses of ketamine on driving performance: This innovative study leverages (±)-Norketamine hydrochloride to investigate the effects of ketamine on motor skills and cognitive functions, contributing to discussions on public safety and clinical use of psychoactive compounds (Hayley et al., 2018).

  • Ketamine metabolites with antidepressant effects: This research highlights the role of (±)-Norketamine hydrochloride in identifying ketamine metabolites with potential antidepressant effects, thus expanding its applications beyond anesthetic use to potentially treat mood disorders (Fassauer et al., 2017).

  • Development of Rapidly Metabolized and Ultra-Short-Acting Ketamine Analogs: Utilizing (±)-Norketamine hydrochloride, this study aims at developing new ketamine analogs that could offer benefits such as reduced side effects and shorter duration of action, pivotal for both clinical and therapeutic applications (Harvey et al., 2015).
