General description

Pharmaceutical secondary standards for application in quality control provide pharma laboratories and manufacturers with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to the preparation of in-house working standards

application

Lycopene may be used as a pharmaceutical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations by a liquid chromatography technique.[1]
These Secondary Standards are qualified as Certified Reference Materials. These are suitable for use in several analytical applications including but not limited to pharma release testing, pharma method development for qualitative and quantitative analyses, food and beverage quality control testing, and other calibration requirements.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Antioxidant micronutrient of tomatoes associated with decreased risk for cancer and cardiovascular disease. Enhances gap juction communication between cells via upregulation of connexin 43 and reduces proliferation of cancer cells in culture. Inhibits cholesterol synthesis and enhances low-density lipoprotein degradation.

Analysis Note

These secondary standards offer multi-traceability to the USP, EP and BP primary standards, where they are available.

Other Notes

This Certified Reference Material (CRM) is produced and certified in accordance with ISO 17034 and ISO/IEC 17025. All information regarding the use of this CRM can be found on the certificate of analysis.
This material contains about 10% w/w of lycopene in inert substances. Please see COA for certified content value.

Questions

  1. Hi, I would like to ask in the product papg and it says approximately 10% lycopene in inert substances. Can I ask if I scale 10 mg of the product, only 1% is lycopene? And the rest of the substance cannot be dissolved in any other organic solvent? Thank

    1 answer
    1. Yes, this product consists of 1% Lycopene, which is soluble in organic solvents such as carbon disulfide, ethyl ether, petroleum ether, chloroform, and benzene.. The remaining inert materials are insoluble in organics and may be removed by filtration. Note that the Lycopene concentration varies slightly from lot to lot. Please review the lot specific Certificate of Analysis prior to use.
