General description
Oximes are selective reagents which react with limited number of metal ions. These form water-insoluble complexes extractable into organic solvents. Furildioxime, a gravimetric and colorimetric reagent for nickel, palladium, platinum and rhenium is prepared by the oximation of furil with hydroxyammonium chloride followed by aqueous recrystallisation using MacKair′s method.
Application
a-furildioxime [(2,2′)-Furildioxime] was used:
- as neutral carrier in Calcium(II)-selective potentiometric sensor, selective electrode used for titration.
- in the synthesis of ketenimines and bis(ketenimines).
- in determination of palladium in water samples by rapid spectrophotometric analysis.

A very simple, selective, and fast flow injection spectrophotometeric method is developed for determination of nickel using furildioxime as complexing agent. Micellar solution of brij-35 is employed to solubilize the sparingly soluble complex of Ni-furildioxime in buffered aqueous system (pH-9.00).

In previous work we found that iron is a factor in skin photodamage, apparently by way of its participation in oxygen radical production. Here we report topical photoprotection with the iron chelator 2-furildioxime (FDO). Our purpose was to determine the
