General description

Phosphatidic acid is obtained from glycerophospholipid with the help of phospholipase D.[1] 14:0 PA/a negatively charged 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (DMPA) carries a phosphoric acid head group.[2]

Application

14:0 PA may be used to prepare liposomes.[2] It may also be used as a phospholipid (PL) standard to quantify phosphatidic acid (PA).[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidic acid might serve as a modulator of phagocyte respiratory burst. It also acts as a precursor of diacylglycerol and lysophosphatidic acid.[1]
