HLA-DP is an antigen receptor and one of the MHC class II proteins. HLA-DP is a heterodimer of an alpha and a beta chain. Both chains are type I transmembrane proteins with short cytoplasmic domains. It is expressed on antigen-presenting cells and a variety of other cell types, and is also expressed by various tumors such as melanoma, gastric carcinoma, breast carcinoma, ovarian carcinoma, and lymphoma.
Major histocompatibility complex, class II, DP alpha 1 (HLA-DPA1) is a class II heterodimer comprising of a polymorphic β and an oligomorphic α chain. It is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 6p21.33. HLA-DPA1 is generally expressed on a subset of Kupffer cells and resident macrophages in liver.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide derived from human HLA-DP alpha1 protein.
Application
Anti-HLA-DP alpha 1 antibody, Rabbit monoclonal has been used in immunohistochemistry.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Major histocompatibility complex, class II, DP alpha 1 (HLA-DPA1) alloreactivity is highly relevant in clinical transplantation. It plays an essential role in the presentation of viral antigens to CD4+ T helper (Th) lymphocytes. Studies have suggested that SNP (single nucleotide polymorphisms) of HLA-DP can result in chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.
