General description

Ninjurin-1 (UniProt Q92982; also known as Nerve injury-induced protein 1) is encoded by the NINJ1 (also known as NIN1, NINJURIN) gene (Gene ID 4814) in human. Ninjurin-1 (NINJ1) is a cell surface adhesion molecule originally identified to be up-regulated in neuronal and Schwann cells after sciatic nerve injury. NINJ1 is also reported to play a role in the progression of multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune inflammatory CNS disease characterized by demyelination and axonal damage. In addition, NINJ1 is known to cause regression of hyaloid blood vessels important for the maturation of the lens during embryonic development. Consistent with the latter role in vascular system, Penile injection of Ninj1-neutralizing antibody is shown to significantly restore erectile function in a murine model of diabetic erectile disfunction (ED) as a result of enhanced cavernous endothelial cell proliferation. Human Ninjurin-1 is a 152-amino aicd protein with boht its N- and C-terminal ends exposed extracellulary (a.a. 1-80, 142-152) and a short intracellular segment (a.a. 102-119) sandwiched between two transmembrane domains (a.a. 81-101, 121-141).

Specificity

Clone 12H6.1 targets the N-terminal extracellular domain of human Ninjurin-1.

Immunogen

Epitope: N-terminal extracellular domain.
GST-tagged recombinant human Ninjurin-1/NINJ1 N-terminal extracellular domain.

Application

Anti-Ninjurin-1 Antibody, clone 12H6.1 is an antibody against NINJ1 for use in Western Blotting, Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin).
Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:50 dilution from a representative lot detected NINJ1 in human liver, pancreas and cerebral cortex tissue sections.
