General description

Hydrocortisone for use in epithelial and endothelial adherent cell culture applications.

Application

Hydrocortisone is used for the following applications:
  • Used in myogenic induction and identification
  • Used in long-term stromal cultures and methylcellulose cultures (one of the components in the culture medium)
  • Used in adipogenic differentiation (one of the components in adipogenic medium)
  • Used in cell culture: The human mammary epithelial cell MCF-10A cells were maintained in DMEM/F12 and supplemented with hydrocortisone along with other components
  • The SUM149 cell line was established from a primary IBC and grown in FBS supplemented with Ham′s F12 medium containing insulin and hydrocortisone
  • Used in differentiation assays of melanoma spheroid cells

Biochem/physiol Actions

Primary glucocorticoid secreted by the adrenal cortex. It has three times the anti-inflammatory potency of corticosterone but much lower Na2+ retention potency.

Physical form

powder-RT; stock-frozen in working aliquots, avoid repeated freeze/thaw

Reconstitution

To prepare 50 μg/mL stock solution; add 1 mL absolute ethanol, gently swirl to dissolve, add 19 mL sterile medium while mixing.

Inflammatory breast cancer is a rapidly growing, distinct form of locally advanced breast cancer that carries a guarded prognosis. To identify the genes that contribute to this aggressive phenotype, we compared under- and overexpressed sequences in an inflammatory breast tumor

Recent studies suggest that cancer can arise from a cancer stem cell (CSC), a tumor-initiating cell that has properties similar to those of stem cells. CSCs have been identified in several malignancies, including those of blood, brain, and breast. Here
