Oil Red O stain is suitable as a lipid/lipoprotein stain on cellulose acetate. A 0.2% stock solution is prepared in methanol. The stock solution (35 ml) is diluted with 10 mL of 1 M NaOH immediately before staining. The dye begins precipitating during staining.
