Application

Drugs that inhibit monoamine oxidase B activity are used for the treatment of various neurological disorders including depression. [1]
Monoamine Oxidase B has been used in a study to assess the effect of age in 23 different regions of the human brain. [2] It has also been used in a study to determine the specific locations of monoamine oxidase in the human brain. [3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

MAO′s are proteins of the mitochondrial membrane. These enzymes are responsible for catalyzing oxidative deamination of endo- and xenobiotic amines. Substrate specificity differs for each isozyme.

General description

Monoamine Oxidase B is a mitochondrial outermembrane flavoenzyme that is a target for antidepressant and neuroprotective drugs. [4]

Other Notes

kynuramine deamination activity: One unit will deaminate 1 nanomole of kynuramine per minute at pH 7.4 at 37 deg C.

Questions

  1. What is the concentration?

    1 answer
    1. Each vial contains approximately 2.5 mg protein. The minimum protein concentration is 2.5 mg/mL. A survey of recent lots indicates a consistent concentration of 5.0 mg/mL. The minimum activity of this enzyme is 1 unit per milligram and varies considerably from lot to lot. This value is reported in the product Certificate of Analysis.
