General description

The gene transcription factor SPIB (Spi-1/PU.1 related) is mapped to human chromosome 19q13.3-q13.4.[1] It belongs to ETS (E26 transformation-specific) family of DNA binding proteins.[2] SPIB is expressed in B cells and immature T cells.[2]

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Transcription factor SPIB (Spi-1/PU.1 related) is crucial for development of human plasmacytoid dendritic cells.[3] SPIB is also required for plasmacytoid dendritic cell survival through induction of the antiapoptotic gene BCL2A1 (Bcl-2-related protein A1).[4] On the other hand, overexpression of SPIB inhibits development of T, B and NK cells.[5][6] Single nucleotide polymorphism in SPIB is associated with risk of primary biliary cirrhosis.[7]
