Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. Biochem/physiol Actions

DHODH (Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase) is a mitochondrial protein expressed in the intermembrane space of the mitochondria. It is highly involved in the mitochondrial respiratory complex activities. It is a single key enzyme of pyrimidine de novo biosynthesis pathway present in the mitochobdria. It stabilizes the mitochondrial RC (respiratory chain) activities by interacting with the respiratory complex. It facilitates the fourth step i.e. conversion of DHO (dihydro-orotate) into orotate in the pyrimidine biosynthesis. The DHODH activity depends on the active complex III of the RC. The protein is also essential for the mitochondrial-mediated cell viability. Mutation in the gene leads to several recessive inherited disorders such as postaxial acrofacial dysostosis or Miller syndrome.
