General description

PIANP (PILR α associated neural protein) was initially recognized as a candidate junctional protein in sinusoidal endothelial cells in liver. It is a type I transmembrane protein and is O-glycosylated and sialylated. This protein is primarily expressed in neural tissues.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

PIANP (PILR α associated neural protein) binds to and activates PILRα (paired immunoglobulin-like type 2 receptor α), which is an immune inhibitory receptor. Thus, this protein is involved in immue regulation. This protein might also play a role in neurological immune disorders, such as multiple sclerosis.
