General description

Sigma′s GenElute Stool DNA Isolation Kit provides a convenient and rapid method to isolate total DNA from fresh or frozen stool samples. The kit can also be used to isolate DNA from preserved stool samples. The universal protocol conveniently allows for the isolation of total genomic DNA from all the various microorganisms and host cells found in the stool sample simultaneously. The kit removes all traces of humic acid using the provided Bead Tubes and a combination of chemical and physical homogenization and lysis. A simple and rapid spin column procedure is then used to further purify the DNA. The purified DNA is of the highest quality and is fully compatible with downstream PCR applications, as all humic acid substances and PCR inhibitors are removed during the isolation.

  • Simultaneous isolation of both host DNA and microbial DNA (universal protocol)
  • Eliminates PCR inhibitors including humic acid
  • High quality DNA for sensitive downstream applications

Application

  • PCR
  • Southern Blot Analysis
  • Sequencing
  • Microarray Analysis

Features and Benefits

  • Fast and easy processing - Rapid isolation of high-quality, ready-to-use DNA in 30 minutes.
  • No organic extraction or alcohol precipitation - Phenol is not required for the isolation
  • Universal procedure - Simultaneous isolation of both host DNA and microbial DNA
  • High yields - Consistent, high yields of inhibitor-free DNA up to 50 kb plus
  • Remove all inhibitors - Eliminates all PCR inhibitors including humic acid
