CD5 is a transmembrane glycoprotein monomer with an Mr of 67,000. It possesses a large cytoplasmic domain suitable for signal transduction (Lozano, 1997). CD5 appears early in thymocyte development (Lozano, 1997), and is expressed at low density on thymocytes and at high density on all mature T lymphocytes (Lozano, 1997). The specificity of anti-CD5, DK23, is equivalent to that of the CD5-clustered antibody Leu-1 (Stein, 1984).
