Fructose transporter, Glucose transporter type 5, small intestine, glucose transporter-like protein 5, solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter),
member 5, solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose/fructose
A cytochalasin B-sensitive carrier located in the membrane, GLUT-5 appears to be primarily functional as a fructose transporter. It is expressed in the small intestine, and is also found in the skeletal muscle, kidney and adipose tissue but at significantly reduced levels.
Specificity
Recognizes GLUT-5.
Immunogen
Epitope: C-terminus
Synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of rat GLUT-5 (aa 490-502) coupled to KLH. The immunogen sequence used is only 53% conserved in mouse.

Fructose has become a major constituent of our modern diet and is implicated as an underlying cause in the development of metabolic diseases. The fructose transporter GLUT5 (SLC2A5) is required for intestinal fructose absorption. GLUT5 expression is induced in the
High Fructose Corn Syrup Accelerates Kidney Disease and Mortality in Obese Mice with Metabolic Syndrome.
Intake of fructose-containing sugars is strongly associated with metabolic syndrome. Compared with other sugars, dietary fructose is uniquely metabolized by fructokinase. However, the tissue-specific role of fructokinase in sugar-induced metabolic syndrome, and the specific roles of glucose and fructose in
