General description

Benzyl methyl ether can be prepared by the reaction of benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal and trimethylsilane in the presence of trimethylsilyl triflate.[1] It reacts with N-bromosuccinimide to form α-bromobenzyl methyl ether, which undergoes degradation to form benzaldehyde.[2]
