General description

End pieces are equipped with porous frits. These can be made up of sintered metal, glass, plastic. The pore diameter and surface structures of the frits should be optimised to avoid clogging and abrasion of the chromatographic particles. The frits are made to be easily exchangeable.[1] The packing material is kept in place by means of using frits.[2]

Application

Polyethylene frits may be used for glass columns to conduct filtration experiments with bacterial suspensions.[3] PTFE frits may be used for preparative chromatography[4] and solid phase extraction[5] for borosilicate columns.
