General description

Chloroform is widely used as an industrial solvent, aerosol propellant and as a preservative in concentrations between 0.1 and 0.5 percent in aqueous pharmaceutical preparations. It is a human carcinogen with cardiotoxic and hepatotoxic effects and is also known to cause skin infections.[1][2]

Application

Chloroform may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in aqueous pharmaceutical formulations[2] by chromatography and drinking water samples[3] by spectrofluorimetry.
